We've been Testarossa wine club members for more than ten years, so College Ave is where this list starts. The winery pours almost all Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the old Novitiate winery at 300-A College Ave, and its 107 Bistro takes the name from the property's original 1888 federal winery license number. Summer is the shady patio; in winter it's heated clear tents and the indoor room. Thursday evenings the bistro has live music from 5 to 7, and Testarossa posts the acts about two months ahead on its site. Over on N Santa Cruz Ave, we've been on-and-off members at Enoteca La Storia (416) and members at Rootstock Wine Bar (217). Enoteca's sister bottle shop, Ancora Vino, is my go-to for bottles I haven't tried, like whites from Croatia and Slovenia.
Dinner first, then music. Gardenia at 115 N Santa Cruz Ave is the see-and-be-seen spot, a Victorian with a big front yard that was a mortuary and then a Chart House, and it's very hard to get into on weekends. Zona Rosa at 81 W Main St is where I go for tacos, I like Centonove at 109 W Main St, and Dio Deka inside Hotel Los Gatos on E Main St earned a Michelin Plate in 2024 and 2025. Number 1 Broadway at 102 S Santa Cruz Ave is the bar with bands: 21 and over, room for about 100 people, lineup posted on its home page. Game on and every bar downtown is full? The Wine Cellar on University Ave has a tiny basement bar with a TV.
The year has a few anchors. Summer Sundays bring Music in the Park to the Civic Center Lawn, a Town series since 1988, and summer Wednesdays bring Jazz on the Plazz to Town Plaza Park. The first weekend of October is St. Mary's Country Fair on Bean Ave, and the first Saturday of December is the Children's Holiday Parade down N Santa Cruz Ave. Up the hill, Burrell School on Summit Rd and Wrights Station on Loma Prieta Ave carry 95033 Los Gatos addresses, so they're on the list too. I haven't made it up to Burrell School yet, though friends like it. One confession: when I first wrote down what I knew about town, I had the farmers market on Saturday. It's Sunday.
